Game Changer FC prepared for their Flourish League Cup Final with Futures FC next Sunday, with a convincing 8-3 victory over a lacklustre Tarn Tykes in this local friendly. Played on Rotherham Road (in Barnsley) and was quickly arranged after the Reds saw their final Flourish League game postponed.
They were scheduled to travel to Sheffield FC Red Flourish where a victory would have secured the Division 3 title ahead of second-placed RvB Hillsborough. However, the Dronfield based side forfeited due to injuries, gifting the Kendray club both all three points and the league title.
Against Tarn Tykes, the Reds avenged an early friendly defeat which had seen the Tykes win 5-4, but they were no match for Matt Townsend’s side who were without several players for this fixture. Kevin Laws, Lewis Ripley, Dean Noble, Joe Stones, and Ryan Hunter – to name a few.

In the searing heat, the visitors stormed into a 4-1 lead at the break, but the story of the game was that, in reality, they ought to have won by a stronger margin after they (continuously), wasted golden opportunities in the final third. It wasn’t the greatest performance that the team has displayed all season, however, created and finished enough chances to overturn their opposition.
A header from Brandon Jones set off the rout whilst Townsend, Jones (again), and Dean Crawford all rocketed the Changer team into a commanding lead. However, they conceded late in the first half following disastrous passing between the keeper, Scott Crawford, and the defence which resulted in the opposition profiting from the Reds woes. At the other end, the visitors wasted chances in front of goal. They were rewarded with a penalty following a foul in the 18-yard box. Defender, Brett Hanson was gifted with the opportunity in front of goal, from twelve yards out. His effort was good, powerful, and straight in the middle of the goal, which the keeper guessed correctly to prevent the full-back from claiming his glory!
In the second half, the Reds extended their lead but again they conceded from woeful defending. Tyler Calton-Smith, agonisingly, headed into his own goal as he attempted to clear a cross whilst the hosts finished from close-range. `
Substitute, Liam Potter smashed home from 22 yards, Crawford netted his second of the match. Potter turned provider as his through-ball found Jamie Moore, and his left footed effort found the bottom corner, whilst other effort skimmed the top of the crossbar. He later added his second in an enthralling match which rarely saw the hosts threaten the final third.
Team: Scott Crawford, Cameron Harrison, Matthew Townsend, Callum Brammer, Brett Hanson, Jordan Ibbotson, Joe Deakin, Brandon Jones, Jack Riley, Dean Crawford, Jamie Moore. Subs: Paul Holland, Levi Wilkinson, Liam Potter, Tyler Calton-Smith
