The Final Countdown…

Paul Holland - Game Changer FC

Futures FC will be looking to lift the Flourish League Cup for the second successive season, whilst Game Changer FC will be aiming for a cup upset in their debut season and take the trophy for themselves.

In the 18-months that the football club has been formed, the club has gone from strength to strength in their debut season. Unfortunately, they have finished bottom of the Sheffield & District Fair Play League, but, in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Flourish League, despite losing their opening day league fixture, were crowned champions of Division 3 and hope to complete an amazing season by lifting the cup as well.

The Reds reached the final of the Flourish League Cup after beating fellow Third Division side RvB Hillsborough 6-3 on 18th February on Concord Park before overturning Division 1 champions Yorkshire Athletic FC 3-0 on 10th April at Frickley. Dean Crawford was twice on target, whilst Thomas Watson added a third in an overwhelming victory.

Game Changer had been scheduled to face Sheffield FC Red Flourish last Sunday. A victory would have cemented the Flourish League Division 3 Championship, however, after forfeiting the match, maximum points were awarded and thus handing the Reds the league title. Instead, in preparation for this Sunday’s fixture, the Barnsley based club were victorious over Tarn Tykes – winning 8-3.

This weekend’s fixture won’t be the first meeting between the two clubs. They both met in a friendly just over twelve months ago, on 13th May 2023 as the Changer team was fulfilling fixtures to gain entry into the leagues. On this occasion an inexperienced Game Changer side lost 8-0 to their Sheffield counterparts.

Formed in 2016, Futures FC were champions of this cup competition last season after beating Aston and Swallownest in the final. They reached the final of this years competition following an 8-2 victory at Soccer Club (SC) Wanderers Flourish on 3rd March, before claiming a landslide 7-0 victory at the Eco-Power Stadium (Doncaster), on 7th April against Aston Swallownest Juniors White.
