Game Changer succumbed to an 8-0 drumming from Sheffield based club Future FC in what was a woeful day for GCFC, who walked away with few positives to reflect on. The S5 club have reached the Sheffield Flourish Super Cup Final, where they will face Aston Swallownest on 28th May – we wish them luck!
The hosts were without some key personnel for their morning clash. Jack Brown (broken hand), Martin Wilsdon, Chris Gibson, and Kevin Laws were all absent. Manager, Gavin Frost, opted to begin the match with Ryan Hunter between the sticks whilst Liam Cole played the second 45 minutes.

The experienced and well-oiled visitors swept the Changer side aside in a first-half period which saw Future score six times, using their pacey wingers who slipped past the Changer defence on several occasions.
Meanwhile, Changer began the match with a 4-1-4-1 formation with Jamie Moore as the lone striker. Whilst using their wingers to the best of their ability they struggled to test the Future keeper, although Matthew Townsend almost found the net with his telling header but the stopper, somehow, tipped the ball over for a corner, and Jesse Payne saw an effort flash wide prior to the half-time whistle.
Their strong forward line saw the visitors six goals ahead at the break. Notable goals saw their striker round keeper Hunter in a one-on-one situation and, although, defender Paul Holland attempted to prevent a goal. The striker pushed the ball home at the near post with the goal at his mercy. The fifth goal saw them finish coolly on the angle after the ball drifted wide from a corner, and the sixth was an excellent effort from the edge of the area, producing an unstoppable shot.
Firing downhill, Changer switched to a 4-3-3 formation in the second half. Despite conceding twice in the first ten minutes of the restart as Future began were they left off. However, this, amazingly, would be the last goal in the game – although the visitors remained in control, the hosts saw more of the final third.
Twice the hosts won free-kicks on the edge of the opposition penalty area with each set-piece narrowly failing to hit the target. Overall, it was a disappointing performance against a strong squad and, perhaps, one of those games that won’t live long in the memory.
