Oranges out of the Cup

Paul Holland - Game Changer FC

Game Changer FC was knocked out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Fair Play League Challenge Cup last Saturday at the first time of asking.

In a poor performance, the Oranges were swept aside by an experienced King’s Athletic side who had over two decades of wealth and experience to their name. This was, in contrast, Game Changer’s first ever competitive fixture since their formation late last year.

They were poised for excitement after they took the lead through Jesse Payne, and despite Payne adding a second on the stroke of half-time, the visitors went into the break 4-2 down. Levi Wilkinson added a third for the club, profiting after Payne hit the post and was denied his hat-trick, but this proved otherwise to be a scant consolation with Athletic adding five further goals in the second half to teach the O’s an unfortunate football lesson.

Elsewhere, their opening day opponents, Swallownest Bethesda (on 2nd September), booked their place in Round 2 following a destructible 9-1 victory at Dronfield FC at Olive Grove.

After United4Communities withdrew from the Fair Play League, their scheduled opposition, Mosborough Yellows, was handed a bye into Round Two. Meanwhile, Fox Glen was also handed a bye into the next round after Third Division side, Doncaster Vulcan, withdrew from the First Round.

All the games took place on Saturday, 19th August 2023, and kicked off at 10:30 AM.
